When your school network blocks Typing Musou
This page is for teachers and ICT staff who want to use Typing Musou at school. The request letters below can be copied and used as they are.
Why it is blocked
- School filters block sites by category, using a URL database maintained by the filtering vendor. Typing Musou is listed there under “Hobbies & Entertainment > Games”.
- So are the other typing practice sites in Japan. The vendor confirmed that Sushida, e-typing and Typinger Z are all in the same category.
- In other words, nothing about the content was flagged. The whole genre of typing practice is filed under “games”.
By “learning material” we mean digital textbooks and similar study content provided by publishers or educational organisations.
Because of that definition, we have not been able to get the category changed. A request from us, the developer, does not move it.
Only a teacher can get it unblocked
- The board of education told us that they do not act on requests from vendors or developers. We cannot get the site allowed from the outside.
- The same reply described the route that is open: when a school decides a site is needed as teaching material and reports or requests it, the board reviews it and handles it case by case.
- One request from one teacher can open the site for other schools in the same municipality. It is the surest path we know of.
First, work out where it stops
“It doesn’t open” has several causes, and each one needs a different person.

If WebSocket traffic is blocked, the game falls back to another transport automatically. In most environments matches still work.
Try it once before the lesson
Finding out during the lesson costs you the lesson. Open typingmusou.com once on a device the students will actually use, and get as far as a match or a dojo drill.
Request letters you can copy
Replace the ○○ placeholders. Asking inside the school first, then the board of education, tends to work best. The letters are written in Japanese because that is who receives them.

Safety and load
- No advertising is shown.
- There is no free-text chat. In matches, students can only send a fixed set of preset stamps.
- Students can join a class with a 6-character class code. An email address is not required.
- A match uses a few kilobytes per second — far less than video material.
- If WebSocket traffic is blocked, the game switches to an HTTP transport automatically.
- If a device struggles, Settings → Visual settings → Lite mode reduces the drawing load.
If it still does not work
